A Straight To The Point Review: The Queen of the Tearling by: Erika Johansen

The Queen of the Tearling (#1) by: Erika Johansen (July 2014)
448 pages
Genre: Fantasy
Publisher: HaperCollins Publishers
Source: The Library
Goodreads Summary: Kelsea Glynn is the sole heir to the throne of Tearling but has been raised in secret by foster parents after her mother - Queen Elyssa, as vain as she was stupid - was murdered for ruining her kingdom. For 18 years, the Tearling has been ruled by Kelsea's uncle in the role of Regent however he is but the debauched puppet of the Red Queen, the sorceress-tyrant of neighbouring realm of Mortmesme. On Kelsea's 19th birthday, the tattered remnants of her mother's guard - each pledged to defend the queen to the death - arrive to bring this most un-regal young woman out of hiding...

And so begins her journey back to her kingdom's heart, to claim the throne, earn the loyalty of her people, overturn her mother's legacy and redeem the Tearling from the forces of corruption and dark magic that are threatening to destroy it. But Kelsea's story is not just about her learning the true nature of her inheritance - it's about a heroine who must learn to acknowledge and live with the realities of coming of age in all its insecurities and attractions, alongside the ethical dilemmas of ruling justly and fairly while simply trying to stay alive...

My Review

The Queen of the Tearling is a MUST read for all Fantasy fans, scratch that, it is a MUST read for anyone that even likes fantasy a tiny bit.

Here is why…

The Queen of the Tearling is full of rich memorable characters. The main character, Kelsea, is a strong, calculating, hard not to like Queen.

It is never boring. It’s full of magic, secrets, and intense scenes.

As you keep reading and get further and further lost inside the story you will acquire more and more feels.

Talk about beyond exceptional writing.

This quote: “Even a book can be dangerous in the wrong hands, and when that happens, you blame the hands, but you also read the book.”

Bottom Line: I NEED book two.

My First Ever Month In Review! - August Edition

~ August Edition

What happened on It's a Book Life?

My Favorite Read of The Month

My review will be posted shortly! I gave it five well earned stars.

What went down behind the blog?
  • I went to Vegas for the second time in my life. My friend won a trip from a bridal magazine to celebrate her bachelorette party. So our flight and hotel were paid for! I had a blast, won a little bit of money, and was extremely tired when I got home.
  • I got a new job! Don't worry, I still work at the library. I am now a desk clerk instead of a page. It's a pay raise and so far I am really loving it.
  • Today I took part in my annual family fantasy football draft. I'm ready for football season! Fall is my favorite time of year not only because of football, but because it means my cardigans, sweaters, boots, and scarves can be taken out of the closet.
My New Obsession

The television show Outlander! I have been hooked since the first episode and I now want to read the rest of the books more than ever! (I have only read the first one.)

September Is Here!

My Bookish and Non-Bookish Goals For September
  • I am so very far behind in writing reviews and posting them. My goal, get it together.
  • Read my three ARC's that debut in September.
  • Catch up on the television show, Vampire Diaries, before it comes back on.

The Book I look Forward to Reading The Most This Month

Other Sept. Releases I want to read
