News

J.K. Rowling is writing a Harry Potter prequel for the stage. I'm down with this. (I'm trying to sound calm and not act like a crazy overexcited person.)

They decided on a tagline for the book to movie adaptation for The Fault in Our Stars, and I seriously can't believe it. It reads: "One sick love story." Ugh.

Do you want to see which books sold the most in 2013? It is an interesting but not too surprising of a list.

We finally discovered who leaked that J.K. Rowling was writing as Robert Galbraith. J.K. was/is not happy and I don't blame her.

I feel like not enough people appreciate libraries as much as they should as of late, and that makes me said. Read these beautiful quotes about libraries.

Blog Posts

There is a Bout of Books read-a-thon that begins tomorrow! There is still time to sign up. I have yet to decide if I am going to, but I thought I would share this with you in case you want to participate.

If you are ever worried about plagiarism then I suggest you take a peek at this post over at Dear, Restless Reader.

I am sure all of you who follow my blog know that I am a Harry Potter fan. Therefore, this post over at Writer of Wrongs, 20 Signs You're From the Harry Potter Generation, made my day. I really could relate. If you are a HP fan you will enjoy this.

My Christmas Loot

My husband rocked my world this Christmas by getting me the new HP box set! It is even more gorgeous in person!!
I'm glad my mother-in-law is a reader as well, because I always get at least one book from her for Christmas.
I received a total of $80 in Barnes and Noble gift cards thanks to my parents and my brother-in-law! I can't wait to spend them.

Did you get anything bookish for Christmas? Do you have some bookish news to share? Comment below!

  1. I love that poster! And I don't mind the tagline. I can't tell if you don't or if you are just like that is so wonderful I must ugh/sigh now.
Ooh! J.K.Rowling sounds pissed. Thanks for that link. I've been wondering who leaked her real name.
I think I might do Bouts of Books too. It's the first week of a new semester tomorrow so I'm not so sure... it's not like I want to go crazy though.
Ha! I want that Batman poster XD
Your husband is amazing. I got a lot of books this year which makes me want to do a little dance. I've already read one of them and it was awesome. The book was Poison by Bridget Zinn by the way.

  2. I'm excited for the HP prequel! (though I wouldn't say no to more stories centered around Hogwarts...) And yay for receiving the redesigned boxed set as a Christmas present. Clearly it's the best present to give haha.
Hope you have fun spending your B&N gift cards! :)

  3. Ahhh love the books you got for Christmas! The boxed set is just incredible, isn't it?

And I totally love my library -- especially when I'm trying not to buy so many books!

I was intrigued by that Grammerly article, so I had to go check it out -- and I think it's kind of crazy how expensive it is after checking out the free trial. The idea that people who are not actually copying other people's work would still need to pay for a service to make *sure* they didn't copy is just crazy to me. I ran a draft of one of my book reviews through and it tagged the phrase "I don't want to give to much away" saying that it was found elsewhere on the internet (Pinterest specifically), really?! really??!?! I do not need a service to tell me that I occasionally use a cliched phrase in a sentence, and the last time I checked that's not actually plagiarism. And I know I don't have perfect grammar, but I do think I have a good enough grasp to get by. It irritated me that half the *mistakes* it found were because my writing was too informal -- I'm writing a blog, not an academic paper! OK, I'm done now, LOL Sorry, didn't realize how worked up that would get me! I had just recently heard another blogger mention Grammerly, so the article you shared made me extra curious.

    1. You are hilarious "I do not need a service to tell me that I occasionally use a cliched phrase in a sentence." True that my friend. I wouldn't ever use the service considering how expensive it is and there are free ones on the internet that probably do just as well of a job. I feel like the service is for the paranoid type, but maybe not, I don't know. I just don't know how I feel, but it was interesting all the same.

    2. Haha, I seriously could not believe the price tag! And yea, definitely for paranoid types, because you can bet that people who actually do plagiarize are not using any kind of a service! If anything, it might be useful to run your posts through to see if anyone else has plagiarized your own stuff, but as you said there are definitely free (or at least cheaper) options out there. I canceled my free trial immediately after giving it a test run because there is no way I was going to forget and get charged almost $30!

  4. "I don't want to give too much away"* -- it figures I would type a grammar mistake into a comment such as this! LOL

  5. I will always welcome more Harry Potter! And I HATE the tagline for The Fault In Our Stars. *headdesk* Love the Christmas presents! I have a gift card as well I can't wait to spend :) Great week!
