Mini Romance Review: Maybe Someone Like You

Maybe Someone Like You by Stacy Wise
Length: 366 pages
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Entangled Publishing
Source: I received a free copy from the publisher. This did NOT affect my honest review.
Purchase: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | The Book Depository
My Rating:
Goodreads Summary: Katie Capwell is a bright and accomplished recent law school graduate, and she has her shiny future all mapped out. It's brimming with courtroom victories and creating change. Ryan Brincatt is a tattooed and impossibly cool martial artist, and he’s mastered a fierce roundhouse kick. Their paths never should have crossed. But when Katie lurks outside the kickboxing gym where Ryan works as a trainer, she’s immediately drawn to his casual confidence and playful green eyes. Without making her usual list of pros and cons, she impulsively signs up to train with him. She never imagined that one decision would change. Absolutely. Everything.

My Review

Maybe Someone Like You in Three Words: Flirty. Sweet. Happy.

Although it took me a bit to warm up to the main character and the writing style, once I did I was able to easily enjoy the fun story of Katie and Ryan's romance.

I had many feelings while reading Maybe Someone Like You, ranging from warm and fuzzy to amused and silly. Katie is a young woman looking for her first adult job out of college, and anyone who has ever been in her shoes will be able to relate to her struggles. Katie is smart and funny. Ryan, the sexy kickboxing instructor, is a sweet guy and a great match for Katie.

Maybe Someone Like You was a flirty story that will make you want to take up kickboxing.

The Bottom Line: This book is a sweet and fun read. New Adult romance fans will enjoy the slow burn romance and the right out of college setting.

Purchase: Barnes & Noble | Amazon | iBooks | Kobo
My Rating:
Goodreads Summary: A bad storm, two canceled flights, stuck in an airport with a hot stranger and the guy who broke her heart... what could go wrong? After Sari caught her boyfriend Zev cheating on her, their romantic Florida vacation was ruined. She can't get back to NYC soon enough. Unfortunately, mother nature may have different plans. A huge storm is brewing in the Northeast, and flights all over the country are getting canceled—including Sari's. She winds up stuck at the airport for hours. With Zev! When another stranded passenger (a hot NYU guy) suggests a connecting flight to Boston, Sari jumps at the chance. But when her mom freaks out about her traveling alone, she has no choice—she has to include Zev, and somehow survive being trapped with the guy who broke her heart!

My Review

Airports, Exes, and Other Things I'm Over in Three Words: Musical. Stressful. Entertaining.

What I Liked
  • I was a big fan of the overall plot of Sari trying to deal with her feelings about her boyfriend's cheating when she just can't seem to get away from him! Her Florida vacation turns into a nightmare as she struggles to get back home before a big storm hits. I loved this story line.
  • Sari's best friend is pretty awesome, but I do wish she was in the book more.
  • Sari's parents are present and aren't just in the background! Their worry for her seemed realistic.
  • Fitz and Zev are both fun and sweet characters.
  • I was really transported into the various settings. Whether Sari was stuck in the cramped airport or in squeezed in the backseat of a car in the middle of a storm, the descriptions were spot on.
  • The beautiful cover!
What I Didn't Like
  • It was too short! I wasn't able to really connect or get to know Sari or her boyfriend as much as I would have liked, which is kind of a bummer.
  • All the miscommunication. It is one of my least favorite romance tropes. This is a personal preference.
  • Although the drama did remind me of my teenage years, it was a little too annoying to read as an adult.
The Verdict: I think teens will enjoy the entertaining plot, be able to relate to having overly worrying (and sometimes embarrassing) parents, enjoy Sari's passion for music, and like the cute romance.

WWW Wednesday

WWW Wednesday is a bookish meme hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words

It consists on answering these three questions:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

What I'm Currently Reading

I just picked up Time Bomb from the library after a fellow librarian recommended it. I also just started listening to the next Chicagoland Vampire book.

What I Recently Finished Reading

I read Not if I Save You First for work to see if it would be a good choice for our middle school book talks, and I think they are going to like it! I also just finished the graphic novel Monstress. It was not what I was expecting, but I did really like it!

What I Plan to Read Next

As soon as ACOFAS lands on my doorstep I will be diving in! I also will be reading Airports, Exes, and Other Things I'm Over for a blog tour.

What are you currently reading?

It's been three years since the Virgil County High School Massacre. Three years since my best friend, Sarah, was killed in a bathroom stall during the mass shooting. Everyone knows Sarah's story--that she died proclaiming her faith. But it's not true. I know because I was with her when she died. I didn't say anything then, and people got hurt because of it. Now Sarah's parents are publishing a book about her, so this might be my last chance to set the record straight . . . but I'm not the only survivor with a story to tell about what did--and didn't--happen that day. Except Sarah's martyrdom is important to a lot of people, people who don't take kindly to what I'm trying to do. And the more I learn, the less certain I am about what's right. I don't know what will be worse: the guilt of staying silent or the consequences of speaking up . . .

Haylee Campos is living the New York dream. She’s landed an impressive publishing internship at Folio-Echo, made great friends, and is finally starting to feel at home in the city. At work, Haylee spends her time putting out fires and, of course, making the occasional coffee run to Caffeine, the shop across the street. In spite of her mother’s worries, Haylee’s life is practically a Taylor Swift song. Until she gets caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. Trapped in Caffeine by a group of rogue criminals, Haylee and Carter (the super hot barista whose inability to get her order right is what landed Haylee in this situation in the first place) must rely on their extensive knowledge of action movies in order to save themselves and the other café customers. But time is running out…

Did any of my choices make your list?
