Review: Starry Eyes by Jenn Bennett

Starry Eyes by Jenn Bennett
Length: 432 pages
Genre: Young Adult Contemporary
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Source: I bought myself a copy with my birthday money!
Purchase: Barnes & Noble | The Book Depository | Amazon
My Rating:
Goodreads Summary: Ever since last year’s homecoming dance, best friends-turned-best enemies Zorie and Lennon have made an art of avoiding each other. It doesn’t hurt that their families are the modern day, Californian version of the Montagues and Capulets. But when a group camping trip goes south, Zorie and Lennon find themselves stranded in the wilderness. Alone. Together. What could go wrong? With no one but each other for company, Zorie and Lennon have no choice but to hash out their issues via witty jabs and insults as they try to make their way to safety. But fighting each other while also fighting off the forces of nature makes getting out of the woods in one piece less and less likely. And as the two travel deeper into Northern California’s rugged backcountry, secrets and hidden feelings surface. But can Zorie and Lennon’s rekindled connection survive out in the real world? Or was it just a result of the fresh forest air and the magic of the twinkling stars?

Mini Reviews: Not if I Save You First & Time Bomb

Not if I Save You First by Ally Carter (March 27, 2018)
+ Add to Goodreads

Not If I Save You First was my first Ally Carter book, and it won't be my last. I loved pretty much everything about this book. The romance was well done. The survival scenes had me on the edge of my seat. My only complaint is that I wish it was longer so we could have seen Maddie and Logan's romance blossom even more. This book has a great mix of survival scenes, mystery, snark, and romance. I highly recommend you give this book a try. It's a quick entertaining read.

Time Bomb by Hoelle Charbonneau (March 13, 2018)
+ Add to Goodreads

Time Bomb had me hooked from page one. This thriller is not to be missed. It not only makes for a great mystery that keeps the reader guessing, but  it tackles the important theme of not judging people by how they look. Joelle Charbonneau really is a wonderful storyteller. I think everyone should give this book a try. I will warn you that it is about a tragic bombing at a school.

Giveaway & Review: I Flipping Love You

I Flipping Love You by Helena Hunting
Genre: Adult Contemporary Romance
Length: 320 pages
Publisher: St. Martin's Paperbacks
Source: I received a free ebook of this book from the publisher. This did NOT affect my honest review. Thank you!
Purchase: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | IndieBound
My Rating:
Summary: SHE’S GOT CURB APPEAL. HE’S A FIXER UPPER... From New York Times bestselling author Helena Hunting comes I Flipping Love You, a love story about flipping houses, taking risks, and landing that special someone who’s move-in ready. Rian Sutter grew up with the finer things in life. Spending summers in the Hamptons was a normal occurrence for her until her parents lost everything years ago. Now Rian and her sister are getting their life, and finances, back on track through real estate. Not only do they buy and sell houses to the rich and famous but they finally have the capital to flip their very own beachfront property. But when she catches the attention of a sexy stranger who snaps up every house from under her, all bets are off... Pierce Whitfield doesn’t normally demo kitchens, install dry wall, or tear apart a beautiful woman’s dreams. He’s just a down-on-his-luck lawyer who needed a break from the city and agreed to help his brother work on a few homes in the Hamptons. When he first meets Rian, the attraction is undeniable. But when they start competing for the same pieces of prime real estate, the early sparks turn into full-blown fireworks. Can these passionate rivals turn up the heat on their budding romance—without burning down the house?

My Review

I Flipping Love You in Three Words: Steamy. Funny. Charming.

Rian and her sister are up and coming realtors and want to start flipping houses. Pierce is a lawyer who flips houses during his summer away from his parents and work. When Rian and Pierce meet, sparks fly, and not just from the anger radiating off them. A good meet cute can make or break a romance novel, theirs was spot on.

Rian is really smart, easily embarrassed, and has a secretive past. Pierce is sexy, charming, and blunt. I really liked these characters and found them to be really realatbale, except for the whole being rich thing which I have sadly never experienced. What about the two as a couple? Their banter and differing personalities makes them a fun match. My only complaint is that Rian is described as attractive but doesn't always realize it, which is a little eye-rolling inducing.

I Flipping Love You is a quick entertaining read. Rian and Pierce's chemistry is off the charts. You may even need to have a fan handy while reading, making this a perfect summer read. Although it had a handful of cheesy/cliche moments, I was not distracted from the abundant sexy and fun parts the story had to offer. I laughed just as much as I swooned.

The Verdict: I Flipping Love You is a fun little romance novel guaranteed to curl your toes. A great book to choose when you need a few hours of escape from the real world. This book checks all the boxes for an excellent beach read. Happy reading!

**I loved the first book in this series too. Read my review here. (Don't worry, they can be read as standalones.)

Five on Friday: Recently Added to My TBR Pile

This week's Five on Friday featuring recently added books to my TBR pile has a very interesting mix of various genres. I hope you find something new to add to your own pile. Plus, I am loving these covers. I know I can't wait to get my hands on these beauties.

1. Your Own Worst Enemy by Gordon Jack

I think this book is going to make me laugh. "If this were an ordinary high school election, the winner would be whichever candidate was the most popular. But this year, each candidate may have to sink to a new low to win an election that could change the course of...very little."

2. That's Not What Happened by Kody Keplinger

This one sounds like it is going to be a heartbreaking and very suspenseful novel. "I don't know what will be worse: the guilt of staying silent or the consequences of speaking up . . ."

3. If Only by Jennifer Gilmore

If Only sounds real and strong. "A beautiful and thought-provoking non-linear literary novel about a pregnant teen and a teen searching for her birth mother."

4. Kiss of the Royal by Lindsey Duga

I love a good fantasy/romance novel. This one sounds like it will give me all the feels! "Falling for each other wasn’t part of the plan—but try convincing their hearts of that."

5. I'll be Gone in the Dark

I have recently started listening to the My Favorite Murder podcast and I can't seem to get enough true crime. This book has gotten a lot of praise and I have to read a nonfiction book for my grad school class this summer so I figured I would give it a try.

What's new on your TBR pile?
