I love this week's topic, but I had a hard time just making a list with so many fairy tale retelling topic options! So I ended up kind of making a list and kind of just rambling, but I do mention 10 books/stories. Enjoy!
My all time favorite fairytale retelling is Cress by Marissa Meyer (Rapunzel). I can't wait for Winter to come out! I also have to mention Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas, but since it was very loosely based off of Cinderella I don't really count it as a retelling.
My favorite fairytale retelling type book (I think it is more of a fable) when I was younger had to be The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith.
Some Fairytale Retellings I Want to Read But Haven't Yet
Princess of Thorns by Stacey Jay (Sleeping Beauty)
Rump: The True Story of Rumpelstiltskin by Liesl Shurtliff (Rumpelstiltskin)
While Beauty Slept by Elizabeth Blackwell (Sleeping Beauty)
Strands of Bronze and Gold y Jane Nickerson (Bluebeard)
I wish someone would write a YA retelling of The Princess and the Pea. I feel like someone could remix that into something interesting. I don't know.
I love Cruel Beauty. Also, someone should definitely try a retelling of The Princess and the Pea, theres probably something amazing that could come of that.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to give Cruel Beauty a try and I would LOVE a Princes and the Pea retelling!
DeleteOooh - so many great retellings here. I loved Princess of Thorns, Cruel Beauty and Strands of Bronze and Gold. I have a copy of While Beauty Slept that I just need to get to. And Rump, lol, is on my wish list. I hope you ge the chance to try someof these - can't wait to see your thoughts :)
ReplyDeleteThey all sound so good! This post did get me in the fairytale retelling mood!
DeleteCress is great, definitely my favourite of The Lunar Chronicles! Strands Of Bronze & Gold is on my TBR list, I can't wait to read it!

Cress is the BEST! Why is Winter not out yet?!
DeleteI love Throne of Glass and Lunar Chronicles. Strands of Bronze and Gold was very well done.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to reading Strands of Bronze and Gold. I've only heard good things!
DeleteREAD PRINCESS AND THORNS ASAP! Cutest couple <3
ReplyDeleteI know!! I need to read that one so bad. I think I will love it.
DeleteI absolutely loved Cruel Beauty!
ReplyDeleteSo many people are telling me that! I must read it!
DeleteHow did I not know The Throne of Glass was loosely based off Cinderella? I guess it makes sense...
ReplyDeleteHaha ~ The True Story of the Three Little Pigs is awesome. I still have it on my bookshelf.
I have read none of those retelling either. I feel like Rump will be really good especially because of the story it's retelling. I've never heard of The Stepsister's Tale but it sounds interesting. I think a retelling from the stepsister's POV would be good.
Huh. A Princess and the Pea retelling would be wonderful. When the Ariel retelling came out I was beyond excited. I couldn't believe there wasn't one done (that I know of) before. I want as many Little Red Riding Hood retellings. I'm fascinated with that story and of course Belle's too.
YES! I also liked the Three Little Wolves retelling of that one.
DeleteI just think someone could do something really interesting with the Princess and the Pea! Belle's story and Little Mermaid are also always welcome! :D
it interesting. good job.
