I LOVE this button...maybe just a little bit too much.
I am a New goodreads Addict
I have only recently really gotten into my goodreads account. I started one years ago, but I never used it much except to get book recommendations. Since I started blogging I have started using the account more, daily actually. I am keeping track of how many books I am reading this year (so far 7/100, 1 book ahead of schedule!), I post my reviews on the site, and I now enter giveaways (I've only won one book so far, but I'm determined to win a few more). I also never really did a lot with my to-be-read shelf... until I discovered THE + Add to goodreads BUTTON. I'm calling it a button. I don't know if that is the correct term.
Why I Love The Button
I love reading reviews, I find so many new books that I want to check out, and some of course that I care to forget. One day, while browsing through my list of book blogs that I love, I noticed a few that had the "Add To goodreads" button. When I realized that this button will automatically take me to goodreads so I can add a book to my to-read shelf I got really really excited. I can't tell you how many times I've read a review and thought to myself...hmmm I need to write this down or remember to add it to my TBR list later, and then promptly forgot.
This button opened up a whole new world of awesomness to me. Who knew that one button could change my life? Okay, I may be over exaggerating but I really don't care. This has made my life so much easier, except for one small thing...my TBR pile is growing at an alarming rate. I can only read so fast and this is a problem. But for right now I have decided that I'm just going to enjoy my use of this button. (At least I only add books that I would really like to read, I haven't gone all clicking happy yet.)
I Will Now be Using The Button
By the way, all my reviews will now have this button on it. I'm just trying to help you other goodreads "to-read" shelf addicts out there. It took me a while to figure out how to do it, but I think I got it all worked out. It's really a picture with a link. (Who knew it would be so hard to add one button on your blog, maybe because it is the best button ever!)
Your Opinion on The Button
What do you guys think of this button? Do you use it a lot? Have you even really paid attention to it? I want to know your thoughts. I really hope I'm not the only one addicited to The Button, or goodreads in general.
I'm done rambling about The Button now. I promise.
I don't use goodreads, but I'm like that with my Amazon wish list (yeah, I know, boooo super-cooperate Amazon). It's out of control. The problem is when I go on a buying purge there's just so much material to work with!
ReplyDeleteMine is sooo out of control as well. It gets worse every passing day. I'm just glad I'm not alone!
DeleteI love Goodreads. I do get a little click happy with the add button too. It's fun. I especially like seeing what my friends are planning on reading. Other people is one reason my tbr list is huge!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it fun seeing what other people are reading or going to read? I love it. I'm now a goodreads junkie. :) I love getting all of these new book ideas from other people's reviews, and now that I have goodreads it is so much easier to keep track of everything!
DeleteYea...I do this too. In fact, I really need to cull my "want to read" shelf. I don't use this particular button on my blog. Instead, I write my review over on Goodreads and then grab the code for "Blog this review." That way it automatically links over to Goodreads -- the cover image and title link to the book's page, the author's name links back to his/her page, and the rating links to my review. I find it quite easy to do it that way, but I can certainly see why you like that button!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering about that feature where you could link up your reviews on goodreads with your blog...now I get it. You are always giving me so much new information and I love it! Thanks! I will have to stick with my button though, I just think it's so...perfect. ;)
DeleteGlad I'm not alone. My to read shelf keeps growing and growing and growing...one day I'll work on that.
Ooh, I love the button! I may need to figure out how to add the button to my reviews, as well!
ReplyDeleteI am so in love! :)

That link above will take you to the badge at the very bottom of the page that you can put in your reviews and then you put the link to the badge. (Just like how you add a link to a picture in your posts.) I hope that helps. That is how I did it. Not sure if there is a different way.
Great! Thanks so much, Kay :)
Deletehahaha i love this post! I just read a review today that made me want to read a certain book and even in my comment I said "I must go add this to my TBR list!" Naturally, I didn't do it immediately and forgot what the book was called and now it is bothering me that it may be lost to me forever!! I think its a great idea to use this button and I would definitely take advantage of it if I saw it! Great post!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteI have done that so many times, always forgetting what book I want to read after seeing a post about it. It was really frustrating. This is how my new love for this button formed! hahaha
hey!
ReplyDeletei love the button and would like to add it to my blog posts as well
do you have any tips where i can find it?
http://www.goodreads.com/api
DeleteIt is at the bottom of that page and then you just save it like a photo. Then every time you add the photo to your blog post you highlight it and link it to the goodreads page with the book on it! Basically you link it up like you would any other photo or text in a blog post.
Glad you liked my post! Thanks for stopping by.
