My 2014 summer reading list is already starting to get out of control, but my love for lists and new shiny books made me giddy and excited when I came across Publisher Weekly's list of Best Summer Books 2014.

Chloe Grace Moretz has been in about 10 book to movie adaptations including If I Stay by Gayle Forman, Dark Places by Gillian Flynn, and apparently The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey. The young adult books to movies are ever growing. I'm not sure what I think of this. I base my decision on if I want to see them on their trailers.

Blog Posts

I have read so many books where the pacing seems off, or I'm just not happy with it. There Were Books Involved has a great post on the importance of pacing. If pacing is a bookish topic that interests you then I would highly suggest you check out this post.

If you are looking for some laughs then you must read Parajunkee's post, Cover Junk. There are some highly amusing bad covers featured and Parajunkee's comments just make the post that much better.

The Cafenated Book Reviewer never seems to fail at having interesting and unique blog posts. She is starting a new feature, Recipe & A Book Recommendation! This week features Death Dip and Zombies. Check it out.

Will you be seeing any of these? I plan to see them at least on DVD, I'm not sure about seeing them in theaters yet.

  1. I only knew about the If I Stay movie about a couple weeks ago and I don't know how I feel. I'm part thrilled and part worried. I mean, I love the book but sometimes film people just murder the story. >.<

    1. I really enjoyed the book so I too am a little nervous about the If I Stay movie...I mean I'm not sure Adam is exactly right in the trailer. :/

  2. I didn't know The 5th Wave was going to be a movie! Now I want to read it even more.

And I've been meaning to read some of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's books for the longest time -- it's such a shame that it's taken the news of his death to put them back on my radar. I am sure his legacy will live on a very long time. RIP

    1. I just found out about The 5th Wave, I had no idea either!

Sadly, I was the same way. I heard about his passing and was like how I have been meaning to read some of his books. :(

  3. They can make as many YA books movies as they wish, but I'll only go see them if they don't make a mockery of the book (*cough* vampire academy *cough* - no I will never get over it) I only wish they would diversify the cast a little bit more. I have nothing against Chloe, or that Shae girl but I don't want to see them in every YA movie. And I still have to read Gone Girl...

Why are romance covers so horribly cheesy?

    1. I totally agree...I'm starting to get a little worried that all YA books to movie adaptations are going to feature the same freaking people over and over again. (If it helps, I have not seen vampire academy and since you have convinced me to read the books I don't plan to see it.)

Oh romance covers, how I laugh at thee.

  4. They're making a movie adaption of The 5th Wave?! Ohh that will be interesting. Have you read the book? I liked the beginning of it but hated the end and only skim read it. I really like Chloe Grace Moretz though so I'm interested in seeing this one. I saw the trailer for If I Stay the other day; it made me cry haha. I haven't read the book though but I want to see this movie. She looks so good in it!

Although I do have to be honest that I too am getting annoyed that they seem to be casting the same actors in all of the YA movie adaptions. I mean casting the brother and sister in Divergent as lovers in The Fault in Our Stars that releases so soon afterwards seems wrong. I'll still probably see that movie though. I find it funny because Zoey Deutch was in Beautiful Creatures then starred as the lead in VA (I wonder if that killed her YA to movie career?), Shailene Woodley was the lead in Divergent and also in The Fault in Our Stars (She feels like shes the new 'it' girl of hollywood though!), and now Chloë Grace Moretz is the lead in If I Stay and The 5th Wave? It would be nice to see some new faces! They need to mix it up, it will get boring and repetitive if they carry this on...

You're right, more and more books are being made into movies! I feel like Hollywood doesn't want to take a chance on original screen plays anymore, they just don't want to risk the film bombing and losing money because the whole story wasn't strong enough. Books are definitely the best to make into films because all of the hard work is already done, the authors already created the world and the characters and the story, and if the book did well there's a chance the movie could do well - unless they butcher it like they did VA. And even if the movie doesn't do amazing the people that loved the book will still see it so they know they already have some sort of fan base there. I want in on this action haha, someone needs to cast me in a YA adaption film!

    1. Jord, you just made my day! I'm so glad to hear that I am not the only person who has read The 5th Wave that enjoyed the novel, except for the very infuriating and unoriginal ending!

I would love to see some new faces! (I would totally support you being cast in a YA adaption film, especially if you can get me on set) lol ;) I don't mind all that much, except for the Divergent and The Fault in Our Stars one, I agree with you that it is a little creepy.
