My Rating:

Synopsis: In this heart-wrenching tale of love and loss, a young Marine and his best friend’s sister plunge into a forbidden love affair while he’s home on leave.

When a Marine Chaplain knocks on her door, Jessa’s heart breaks—someone she loves is dead. Killed in action, but is it Riley or Kit? Her brother or her boyfriend…

Three months earlier, Marine Kit Ryan finds himself back home on leave and dangerously drawn to his best friend Riley’s sister, Jessa—the one girl he can’t have. Exhausted from fighting his feelings, Kit finally gives in, and Jessa isn’t strong enough to resist diving headfirst into a passionate relationship.

But what was just supposed to be a summer romance develops into something far greater than either of them expected. Jessa’s finally found the man of her dreams and Kit’s finally discovered there’s someone he’d sacrifice everything for.

When it’s time for Kit to redeploy, neither one is ready to say goodbye. Jessa vows to wait for him and Kit promises to come home to her. No matter what.

But as Jessa stands waiting for the Marine Chaplain to break her heart, she can’t help but feel that Kit has broken his promise…

Riley or Kit? Kit or Riley? Her brother or her boyfriend? Who’s coming home to her?

My Review

I am always beyond happy when I come across a well written, captivating, and unique enough new adult novel. Come Back to Me met all of my high standards.

Come Back to Me starts off beyond emotional and gripping, even without really knowing our characters yet I was already starting to feel the feels. That is strong writing. I was automatically drawn to Jessa and Kit's love story. I love that he was her brother's friend and has been her friend as well for quite some time, and then they start crushing on each other. It is just really cute you guys. Their story is a sweet one full of hope and heartbreak. Jessa and Kit's relationship is both full of laughs and some very steamy moments. I fell into their story and there was no climbing back out until I reached the last page. Their relationship isn't always easy due to the different complications that families sometimes create, but it felt true.

What about all those other characters in the book? I found every character to be complex and interesting. I loved Jessa's brother Riley, it would be hard not to like him. I also enjoyed her best friend Didi's humor, it added a nice amount of comic relief and wonderful friendship moments. I am not sure I have much more to say about this book, except that you should give it a try. Who doesn't love a marine romance type of story? It reminds me how amazing our troops are, and the family and friends that support them.

There were times when I felt the story could have had a little more something to it, but I can't quite put my finger on what. Come Back to Me was a delightful book that new adult romance fans will undoubtedly enjoy. I look forward to reading the next book in this series, This One Moment.

  1. Great review, Kay! This sounds like a very well written read - especially emotionally! I love romance stories where they start out friends or having known each other for a long time before. Glad you liked it! :)

  2. I LOVE emotional and gripping romance books! And I know I'll have to pick this one because the character is a Marine (My husband was a Marine for five years). It does sound like such a good read!

  3. I'm actually someone who isn't too drawn into stories with marines or anyone being deployed. I guess since it can happen in real life. It's all the more painful if someone dies. The romance does sound very enticing and the cover is very beautiful. I'm just scared of it so much.
