To blog or to read? That is the question.
So how do I choose between blogging and reading? Here is what I consider.
Am I in the middle of a really good book? - I'll read. Hands down.
Am I behind in writing reviews? - I'll blog. I try to stay on top of things.
Have I not posted anything for a couple of days? - I'll blog.
Am I an in a crappy mood? - I will read. (If I am being totally honest I may watch Friends.)
Does it feel like a reading type day? - I'll read. (I know I can't always just go by this since usually I think every day is a reading type day.)
Have I been neglecting my comments on my blog? - I'll blog. I love interacting with my followers.
Have I visited my favorite blogs recently? - If I haven't that means I probably miss them and therefore I'll blog and catch up with them.
Am I in a weird reading slump? - I should read... but to avoid it I will probably blog.
Am I behind in any of my reading challenges? I read. At least that is what I should be doing.
Do I have to go into work soon? - I usually blog. I hate stopping in a really good part in a book before going in to work. On the other hand... if I am currently in the middle of a really good book I will read and just deal with the consequences.
Do I need to escape from the real world for a bit? I read. Obviously. ;)
Love this post! I love to blog as much as I love to read and write, but it is a struggle. I've recently adopted an abbreviated blogging schedule and it has helped =)
ReplyDeleteThat is a good idea Heather! I am sure it is even harder for you since you write a lot of books too.
DeleteYes, I do have this problem. I do usually blog now more than I read because I'm so behind with my posts and reviews which is a problem because I'm reading so little ):
ReplyDeleteI also watch a LOT of t.v. so I usually am watching t.v. when I should be blogging or reading. I think if I really get crazy and really feel like reading I'll read a book everyday for a week. No matter what it depends on my mood. I sometimes struggle to read more and other times blog and read other blog posts. I need more balance with that.
It is such a hard balance to find sometimes! I too may possibly for sure get side tracked by tv shows I must catch up on. Good luck finding your balance! :D
DeleteOh no I struggle with this every single day ... read or blog. If i choose read then all is good. if I choose blog then what will i blog... comments, review, check out other blogs.. future posts... its all just too much. that is why my blogging is so inconsistant!!!! great post
ReplyDeleteI am so glad to hear I am not alone! (Even though I am sorry you struggle with this too.) lol :)
DeleteI'm pretty fortunate in that I can browse the blogosphere during work all day... I usually get bloggy things done at that point so I can read after work. I always write my reviews immediately when I finish the book too, so usually I'm pretty good at managing my time!
ReplyDeleteThat is pretty nice! I am liking your system! I am trying to not get behind on reviews this year. I am doing okay so far.
DeleteYes! I'm always thinking I'm blogging when I should be reading...or vice versa. I like your analysis of when to do what.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I too always feel like I should be doing one while I am doing the other.
DeleteI TOTALLY have this problem! I usually just go with whatever I'm feeling. I'm a mood reader but I'm also a mood blogger! Sometimes I'm in the mood to organize. Other times to crank out reviews. Sometimes I can't bring myself to blog and just want to read........ and sometimes none of the above! I definitely go in stages.
ReplyDeleteAnd this comment wasn't helpful at all haha!
That is a great way to put it... being a mood reader and a mood blogger! That is how I think I would describe my blogging and reading to a tee. :D
DeleteGreat post! The struggle is real! I feel like I should always read more...but that doesn't always happen...
ReplyDeleteI feel you!
DeleteFun post! Reading is my heart and blogging, well, sometimes it can be a challenge, but I do love it so. I think I love the community and the people the most :) Plus sharing my love of books!
ReplyDeleteIf I didn't love the community and had so much fun blogging normally this wouldn't be nearly as fun and I would have a harder time choosing when to blog! I'm so glad you are having a good experience with blogging and sharing all the book love! :D
DeleteThat's definitely me too!!! Sometimes when I really can't decide, I end up watching tv lol~
ReplyDeleteI am guilty of the same exact thing. :D
DeleteI struggle with it. I lately prefer to read than blog. But im trying to just read more, give myself a bit of time and then blog a bit. Its tough. Blogging expanded my horizons but sometimes I don't enjoy it, but when I come back to it, I still keep on learning more about the book world. Im in between. Great post.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your blogging/reading experience. Know that you are not alone! I have my moments where blogging just sounds like a chore, but usually I work through it or read a really good book that I then have the urge to blog about. :)
DeleteI think we all have these problems. For example I have been a day behind in commenting for almost two weeks now. (today I am replying and commenting to yesterday's post) Sometimes blogging cuts way into my reading time, which then cuts into my sleep..which causes me to be tired and fall behind..ugh
ReplyDeleteIt is like a never ending cycle! Today I had to respond to two weeks of comments on my blog. I was so behind!
DeleteI like how you wrote up this post and I think I do the same as you under those circumstances. I find I blog the most though when I am either multitasking - like I'll blog while catching up on TV shows - or procrastinating - like when I should be working but don't feel like it. Or I blog a lot on weekend mornings while eating breakfast/having my coffee. Then nights are my reading times...
ReplyDeleteI am always blogging while catching up on TV shows! lol You have a good system. I love it.
DeleteOh this is definitely a problem! Lately the reading wins every time -- with a new baby, if I have time to read, I read for sure! I'd even rather catch up with other blogger's posts than blog lately -- we'll see if that changes at some point though :)
